Playing with a wind - International Kite festival

As soon as January begins we hear a shout "ae Lappeet" from every terrace of a building. At the time of Sankranti kite flying had always been a favourite activity among the Indians. Though it's famous all over India the main hub is Gujarat where people of all age are on their rooftops from dawn to dusk with countless kites, Undiyo to eat and loud songs from movie 'Hum dil de chuke sanam'. So if you really want to see extraordinary kite flying you should visit Gujarat at the time of International Kite Festival.

The birth of International kite festival date backs in the year 1989 allowing to participate expert kite-makers not only from the country but from all over the world. It's the most colourful and vibrant festival in Gujarat filling up blue sky with innumerable tones, designs and shapes of the kites floating in the air. The shots from this essay are of 2008 international kite festival celebrated on Police ground, Ahmadabad.
